August 07, 2014 09:27 PM PDT

At its Aug. 7 meeting, Aloha's Citizen Participation Organization will bring in Oregon State Sen. Elizabeth Steiner Hayward, D-Beaverton, to provide an update on Salem and give community members a chance to ask questions and share concerns.

Other agenda items include a presentation from Mary Richardson with the Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance Program (SHIBA), as well as updates on the South Cooper Mountain and South Hillsborodevelopments.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the TVF&R community room at 20665 SW Blanton St. in Aloha. The parking lot will be closed for paving, but parking will be available on Blanton and the fire station around the corner on 209th Avenue.

Changes are coming to Aloha's Citizen Participation Organization, which met Thursday, March 6. More than 30 community members attended.

Accessible meetings

The organization currently meets at Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue’s community room at 20665 S.W. Blanton St. in Aloha. Organization Chair Constance Kosuda said the current meeting spot isn't safely accessible for those getting to the meetings by bus, bike or on foot.

Portions of Blanton Street leading up to the community room are dark and lack sidewalks, so the organization wants to move its meetings to a location that's easily accessible to all.

Anyone with location suggestions should contact Kosuda at or CPO Program Coordinator Dan Schauer at">

Aloha senior center

The organization's leaders are forming a subcommittee to establish a senior center for the community. Kosuda said this would fill a void in Aloha, and the center could include a food pantry and a faith component.

"(We want to) have a nice, safe place where people can get together in their golden years," she said.

Anyone interested in sitting on the subcommittee should email Kosuda.

Co-chair resignation

Kosuda announced the resignation of former CPO co-chair Damarise Davis. Davis has left the organization because she moved out of Aloha, Kosuda said.
